Spring Reading Thing 2011

Today begins Katrina’s annual “Spring Reading Thing” challenge! It goes from today until June 20th (end of Spring, beginning of Summer). And, for the challenge, I plan on reading the following:

  1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling (review)
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows  by JK Rowling (started)
  3. Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter (review)
  4. Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston
  5. Revolution  by Jennifer Donnelly
  6. Summer of my German Soldier by Bette Greene
  7. Forget-Her-Nots by Amy White
  8. The Sister Wife by Diane Noble
  9. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard (started)
  10. Goodnight Tweetheart by Teresa Medeiros
  11. The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy
  12. Beautiful Disaster by Kate Brian
  13. Perfect Mistake by Kate Brian
  14. Sweet Deceit by Kate Brian
  15. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
  16. The Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney (started)
  17. She’s So Dead to Us by Kieran Scott
  18. Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
  19. My name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira
  20. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahme-Smith
  21. The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern
  22. The Lying Game by Sara Shepherd
  23. Beastly by Alex Finn (started)
  24. Cheating at Solitaire by Ally Carter
  25. Sweet Valley Confidential by Francine Pascal

Well, I think 25 is a good place to start, though perhaps a bit too ambitious. This list may be updated and changed… As things are read, I will cross them out and if necessary, I will add a few books to the list. If abandoned, I will simply put “abandoned” in brackets next to the title.

YA Contemporary Challenge

The Young Adult Contemporary Challenge is hosted by The Undercover Book Lover. In this challenge, you try to read at least 13 that deal with things that could happen in Real Life (i.e. not paranormal YA books). The other requirement for this challenge is that the books must have been published in 2011. I think that rule will be the hardest aspect for me because I am trying not to spend too much money.

So here is my list of books that I have read that qualify for this challenge:

  1. Plan B by Charnan Simon (review)
  2. Ominous by Kate Brian (review)

Outdo Yourself Challenge

The Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge is hosted by The Book Vixen. In this challenge, you essentially just have to read more than you read the previous year.

Out of breath – Read 6–10 more books
Breaking a sweat – Read 11–15 more books
I’m on fire! – Read 16+ more books

Considering I only read 37 books last year, I am going out on a limb and saying that I’m on fire!  In order to be on fire, I will have to read 53 books this year.

So here are my books I have read this year:

  1. The Giver by Lois Lowry
  2. Black by Ted Dekker
  3. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
  4. Plan B by Carnan Simon (review)
  5. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen

2011 Nicholas Sparks Reading Challenge

The Nicholas Sparks Reading Challenge is hosted by Book Vixen. In this challenge, you try to read as many Nicholas Sparks novels as you want in 2011.

There are four different levels:

First Date – Read 1–4 Nicholas Sparks novels
Going Steady – Read 5–8 Nicholas Sparks novels
Engaged – Read 9–12 Nicholas Sparks novels
Married – Read 13–16 Nicholas Sparks novels

For this challenge, I am just going to do First Date. If I get to more than that, then I will try, but at this juncture, I am just going to try to read a couple.

YA of the 80s and 90s

YA of the 80s and 90s is hosted by The Book Vixen.  In this challenge, you try to read as many books as you want as long as they are young adult and published between 1980-1999.

Here is my list of completed reads.

  1. The Giver by Lois Lowry (1993)

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge 2011 is hosted by historicaltapestry.

In this challenge, there are five levels:

  1. Severe Bookaholism: 20 books
  2. Undoubtedly Obsessed: 15 books
  3. Struggling the Addiction: 10 books
  4. Daring & Curious: 5 books
  5. Out of My Comfort Zone: 2 books

I don’t really know that I will be able to make my goal, but I have high hopes. My definition of historical fiction might not meet everyones definition of what is historical fiction. The standard I am going to use for this challenge is that if it is listed on the popular shelves on goodreads, then I will list it under that.

All that said, here are my Historical Fiction reads:

  1. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
  2. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
  3. The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir (review)
  4. The Book of Spells by Kate Brian (review)
