2011

I plan on participating in several challenges. This year. I will just be updating the initial page that the Challenge is posted on with an update or two made separately along the way.

I am participating in Fill in the Gaps. Essentially you pick 100 books you want to read in five years. Here is my list. So far I have two out of one hundred books.

The next challenge I am participating in is the 100+ Reading Challenge hosted  by My Overstuffed Bookshelf. In this challenge, essentially anything goes. If it has an ISBN, it counts. What doesn’t count is short stories or Books from the Bible. The post is here.

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge 2011 is hosted byhistoricaltapestry.

In this challenge, there are five levels:

  1. Severe Bookaholism: 20 books
  2. Undoubtedly Obsessed: 15 books
  3. Struggling the Addiction: 10 books
  4. Daring & Curious: 5 books
  5. Out of My Comfort Zone: 2 books

I will be trying to do the Severe Bookaholism. My post for this challenge is here.

I don’t really know that I will be able to make my goal, but I have high hopes. My definition of historical fiction might not meet everyones definition of what is historical fiction. The standard I am going to use for this challenge is that if it is listed on the popular shelves on goodreads, then I will list it under that.

All that said, here are my Historical Fiction reads:

  1. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
  2. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
  3. The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir (review)
  4. The Book of Spells by Kate Brian (review)
  5. Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan (review)
  6. Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff (review) - not fiction but I am counting it anyway!

The British Book Challenge is hosted by Bookette. In this challenge there are two different levels for international readers.

Winston Churchill - Read 6 books by British authors in 2011

The Royal Family – Read 12 books by British authors in 2011

In addition, if you complete 50 books by British authors, you win the Crown.

For this challenge, I am going to start by doing the Winston Churchill. UPDATE: Complete Winston Churchill as of beginning of May so I am going to go for Royal Family! My post for this challenge is here.

Here are my completed books:

  1. The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir (review)
  2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (audio) (review)
  3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (audio) (review)
  4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling (review)
  5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (audio) (review)
  6. Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (audio) (review)

YA of the 80s and 90s is hosted by The Book Vixen.  In this challenge, you try to read as many books as you want as long as they are young adult and published between 1980-1999.

I am going to try to read 12 YA books that were published in this time period. By post is located here.

Here is my list of completed reads.

  1. The Giver by Lois Lowry (1993)
  2. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen (1988)

The Nicholas Sparks Reading Challenge is hosted by Book Vixen. In this challenge, you try to read as many Nicholas Sparks novels as you want in 2011.

There are four different levels:

First Date – Read 1–4 Nicholas Sparks novels
Going Steady – Read 5–8 Nicholas Sparks novels
Engaged – Read 9–12 Nicholas Sparks novels
Married – Read 13–16 Nicholas Sparks novels

For this challenge, I am just going to do First Date. Here is my post for this challenge.

The Young Adult Contemporary Challenge is hosted by The Undercover Book Lover. In this challenge, you try to read at least 13 that deal with things that could happen in Real Life (i.e. not paranormal YA books). The other requirement for this challenge is that the books must have been published in 2011. I think that rule will be the hardest aspect for me because I am trying not to spend too much money. Here is the post where this challenge is updated.

So here is my list of books that I have read that qualify for this challenge:

  1. Plan B by Charnan Simon (review)
  2. Ominous by Kate Brian (review)
  3. What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen (review)
